Our Story
We are firm believers in Active Learning and flight safety.
A belief which originates from over two decades of valuable experience providing interactive CRM and Human Factors training to the global aviation community.
This is our story.
From Cockpit to Classroom: The Story of Aeroteam
Patience, determination, and a very good idea. Three ingredients which have shaped our business, our belief, and our quest to spread the word of Active Learning in aviation. But to understand our journey, we must start at the very beginning.
Since his childhood, Søren Seindal Agner has admired the gigantic steel birds hovering in the sky, imagining himself in the cockpit. With stripes on his shoulders, hundreds of buttons within reach, and the greatest office view in the world.
“I have always been fascinated with airplanes. How they glide so effortlessly in the sky, and how breathtaking the view must be from above. For me, becoming a pilot was the ultimate dream.”
– Søren Seindal Agner, former pilot and Managing Director of AEROTEAM Training Solutions
He was determined to become a pilot. So he would one day go to work in the office with the most astonishing view. To save money for his education, he worked as a cabin crew member alongside his studies. First in Conair, then in Premiair. In 1995, he acquired his pilot license and secured a job at Danish Air Transport before signing a contract with Scandinavian Airlines in 1999.
The view from the sky only lasted a few years. One morning while getting out of bed, Søren learned the paralysing pain of a herniated disc. Surgeries and sensory disturbance in his legs followed. The pilot dream was destroyed.
“The moment I learned that early retirement was basically my only option, I had to do something. As a 38-year-old man at the time, early retirement would be a massive defeat.”
– Søren Seindal Agner, Managing Director
Instead of accepting his situation, Søren began to explore his own capabilities. Having operated as both cabin crew and pilot for many years, he knew a lot about the interpersonal dynamics and challenges between the cockpit and the cabin. Insights which he could use in his newfound profession. In 2004, Søren became a CRM trainer and founded Aeroteam.
But after ten years of training CRM, he felt that it became increasingly challenging to come up with interactive exercises with a practical element. So, what could he do?
In 2015, Søren met with a Danish company specialising in learning games. He thought that the principles of CRM, particularly the enhancement of non-technical skills could be transferred into an interactive platform.
How can you train communication, teamwork, and decision-making without actually doing it?
The meeting in 2015 became the stepping stone for the MAYDAY Training Tools. Today, MAYDAY helps CRM and Human Factors instructors all around the world integrate interactive and FUN into the training.
For Søren, aviation training has never just been 'a tick in the box'. He has always strived to raise the bar and offer valuable training with emphasis on learning, mistakes, and feedback.
In 2019, Aeroteam and Scandinavian Avionics decided to join forces - and work towards spreading the Active Learning mindset from the operational crew environment to the maintenance arena.
Even though Aeroteam has become AEROTEAM Training Solutions, flight safety is still the overarching mission. For more than two decades, we have used Active Learning to build knowledge, enhance non-technical skills, and shape attitudes. And we continue to help aviation professionals reduce the risk of human errors and improve safety and efficiency. In the air and on the ground.
