Active Learning: CRM & Human Factors
MAYDAY refers to our interactive, instructor-led, and scenario-based classroom tools tailored for CRM and Human Factors training. Our tools incorporate dilemmas, discussions, and reflections, offering valuable insights and data for CBTA, EBT, and SMS programmes.
MAYDAY offers simple simulations of the complex situations that occur in the operational environment. The scenario-based training approach enhances skills in decision-making, teamwork, communication, leadership, and situational awareness – and fosters safety, fewer errors, and lower costs.
The general idea of MAYDAY is to create a safe, non-operational learning environment where pilots, cabin crew, and maintenance staff are allowed to make mistakes without physical consequences. This allows them to gain a better understanding of how their own mindset, behaviour, and attitude affect the work environment. At the same time, MAYDAY collects valuable data and feedback which can be implemented into your organisation’s CBTA, EBT, and SMS programmes.
Essentially, MAYDAY is not yet another training expense. MAYDAY is an investment. In flight safety, competencies, and non-technical skills.
MAYDAY: A VALUABLE TRAINING TOOL
What do the users of MAYDAY think?
MAYDAY CRM TRAINING TOOL
The MAYDAY CRM Training Tool focuses on enhancing the skills of pilots and cabin crew through a competency-based approach to Crew Resource Management training. MAYDAY provides engaging, scenario-based classroom sessions led by a facilitator to reinforce CRM principles. It integrates Threat and Error Management with the evaluation of non-technical competencies like teamwork, communication, decision-making, leadership, and situational awareness. Every decision made during the training reflects consequences in terms of Risk, Inconvenience, or the Dirty Dozen. The tool also incorporates a decision-making framework (e.g. DODAR, FORDEC, GRADE, PIOSEE) to train and improve effective decision-making, along with the NITS exercise to enhance communication skills within the team.
MAYDAY HUMAN FACTORS TRAINING TOOL
The MAYDAY Human Factors Training Tool is tailored for maintenance engineers, certifying staff, and technicians to enhance competency through training and assessment of Human Factors. MAYDAY facilitates interactive training of Human Factors and Safety Management through scenarios, instructor-led sessions, and assessment of competencies. The tool focuses on developing non-technical skills such as teamwork, communication, decision-making, leadership, and situational awareness. The team must prioritise dilemmas and resolve issues while considering the consequences, reflected as either Risk, Cost, Time, and/or the Dirty Dozen. MAYDAY also incorporates reflection exercises and collects valuable feedback and data which highlights the current state of your safety culture, unresolved training needs and gaps, organisational safety issues, and input for corrective action.
